New technologies, global competition and the challenges and opportunities of sustainability are driving innovation at the manufacturing and industrial level.

The diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies and organisational practices is triggering labour market disruptions  ̶ such as faster obsolescence of workers’ know-how and a rapid acceleration of the demand for existing and new competencies – that are leading to significant skills gaps.
We train and nurture future industrial managers and innovators able to conceive new sustainable industrial ecosystems, where the social purpose is deeply rooted in the design and management of operations and supply chains. You will play a leading role in boosting the transition towards circular industrial systems, leading companies towards sustainable growth.

Four international Master programmes come under the heading of Sustainability Management:

The above courses comprise modules of a collective-interest nature, during which students will together study topics relevant to the overall theme; after this they diverge, each offering modules specific to the relevant subject area.

The International Master in Environmental Sustainability and Circular Economy is a 12-month International Master programme offered by us at POLIMI GSoM. Our main objective is to provide you with the necessary skills for a managerial career in the field of sustainability, with a special focus on topics related to Energy Management and Circular Economy.

  • We are the only Business School in Europe (and one of just a few worldwide!) that has achieved the B Corp Certification. This prestigious recognition is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development and to building a more inclusive society.
  • Our faculty includes professors and researchers with very different and complementary backgrounds, who can offer a technical and business-oriented learning approach.
  • POLIMI GSoM features a vast network of international companies, and professionals from partner companies actively give their contribution for the duration of the Master.
  • Innovative teaching methods, with a smart learning and project-based approach and extensive use of real case studies.
  • 1 year: 9 months in class + 3-month project
  • 100% in English
  • In partnership with the main players in the Sustainability field

  1. sustainability is the key strategic ingredient for the long-term growth and success of industrial businesses, making them active players in solving global challenges and meeting societal needs.
  2. by 2050, the global industrial system is expected to double its output, using 50% of current resources and generating 20% of current CO2.
  3. a future successful manager should master all the dimensions involved in the sustainable transition of industry, at both strategic and operational levels.

Strongly experiential approach

Including soft skills for professional development

Are you passionate about sustainability and would you like to start a career in this field? With this Master, you will learn how to achieve the goal of sustainable development by managing the challenges related to Sustainable Industrial Management.

Through a highly practical and project-oriented teaching approach, based on the presentation of relevant industrial experiences and real case studies, you will learn how to master a sustainable transition of the industry, at both a strategic and operational level.

You will develop the ability to analyse industrial practices and identify opportunities for reducing negative environmental and social impacts, taking into consideration possible trade-offs and limitations.

If you are eager to align personal and professional sustainability values, this programme could be the right choice for you.

Please note that we’ve designed this programme for recent graduates with ideally no more than 3 years of work experience. If you have more experience, you might also like to take a look at our International MBA programmes.

Our International Master in Sustainable Industrial Management offers innovative teaching and learning approaches.

For you, we have designed standard in-class lectures, videos, and digital content but also formats that create a very active environment and opportunities for discussion and the sharing of information, such as teamwork, workshops, simulations and case studies.

To participate fully in classes and company visits, your presence on campus is highly recommended, especially from January 2023 onwards; in cases of visa delays, travel barriers or other specific issues, it would be possible to continue attending classes online.

Our partner companies will not simply support but will also help to run the programme: they will design the content with our faculty and bring their direct experience to the class, proposing real cases to discuss during the sessions and offering qualified internship positions to the best students.

We teach this Master entirely in English
