Overview

In today’s complex world awash with technology, fast-moving socio-cultural changes, and ultra-competitive business challenges, you need to find a way to keep ahead of the game. One way to build a strong competitive advantage is by integrating the activities of all the different areas that are involved in delivering products and services to customers.
To do this, a lot of companies are starting to appoint a Chief Operations Officer to coordinate the different functions. Here’s where Digitalisation and Industry 4.0 are becoming technological breakthroughs, and where Operations Managers will have to put a lot of their energy. That’s why an Operations Manager with specific skills in these areas is currently one of the most sought-after figures in any company.
Our International Master in Smart Operations and Industry 4.0 will give you the skills needed to manage Industry 4.0, bringing together the process, the product and the technological view. You will be trained to use Industry 4.0 as an innovative tool in your company and in supply chains, and you’ll also get the chance to boost sustainability along all tiers of the value chain.

Four international Master programmes come under the heading of Digital Transformation:

The above courses comprise modules of a collective-interest nature, during which students will together study topics relevant to the overall theme; after this they diverge, each offering modules specific to the relevant subject area.

Our International Master in Smart Operations and Industry 4.0 will give you the ability to manage the challenges of Industry 4.0, understanding the impact of digital technologies on future products and services and on innovative practices in Operations Management. On top of that, we at POLIMI GSoM can give you a perfect balance between a technological and a managerial approach, thanks to our strong links with companies and our innovative teaching methods.

We’ve designed our International Master in Smart Operations and Industry 4.0 in partnership with MADE – the top Italian competence centre for Industry 4.0.

MADE’s Digital and Sustainable Factory is the technical partner for businesses that want to manage innovation activities, technological transfer and applied research, giving direct assistance to implement I4.0 tools. They provide a wide range of knowledge, methodologies, and digital tools that encompass the entire product lifecycle. MADE not only supports companies in their digital transformation path towards Industry 4.0, but also helps them reshape their organisational, business, and strategical models for maximum competitiveness.

To cover such a wide range of services, MADE is composed of 42 companies (including technology suppliers, advisors, system integrators, education experts), 1 public body (Inail), and 4 universities (Politecnico di Milano, University of Bergamo, University of Brescia, University of Pavia).

  3. 94% of global manufacturing companies said that Industry 4.0 technologies kept operations running during COVID-19 (McKinsey)

CAREER IMPACT

Industry 4.0 is about more than just production. Smart, connected technologies could transform
how parts and products are designed, made, used, and maintained. They could also transform
organisations themselves. (Deloitte)

  • 24% of the companies interviewed expect to hire new staff over the next two years. Automation plays a major role in creating more jobs (Manpower Group Report)
  • 21st century should be about supply chains: companies pay more attention to their supply-chain professionals, and business schools have refreshed their supply-chain curricula (Bloomberg)
  • €95,821 is the average salary for a Chief Operating Officer. The COO has a strategic cross-functional role within the company (Payscale)

Industry 4.0, the manufacturing model of the future: with the help of digital technologies, manufacturing companies will enhance interconnection and cooperation abilities among resources, which will dramatically change their efficiency and competitiveness.
